Shadows
The shadow of a mountain feels cool and refreshing, while the shadow of an umbrella on a hot summer day feels thin and hot. That is, a shadow depends on the characteristics of its projector: deep objects generate deep shadows. Shallow objects create thin shadows.
But why is this? Is a shadow not just some black monotype space?
While others admire a tree, an old European church, a modern sports car, I analyze their shadows. How different does the shadow of this tree feel to me? Does the shadow of the old church capture part of its years? Like a blind man, I look inside myself to see the colors of all shadows.
Yet the hardest has been to step into my own shadow. It feels different and changing to me: lighter in the mornings and darker at night, as our own shadow is mostly projected inwards rather than out onto the pavement.
If you look closely, you will see all kinds of shadows around you, and you will learn to step - from time to time - into your own.
